Of Things
I am officially done.
Of Memorizing
I find it absolutely amazing that some playwrights are easier to memorize than others.
With what ease Shakespeare’s lines have, Mamet completely lacks.
For what great, melodic lines McDonagh has, Pinter has constant subtext and long pauses.
Why are these men so brilliant? And why is it easier to memorize some than others it’s not fair they should all be equal just like marriage...

A courtroom is draped in red and black. The jury sits in a box surrounded by small flames. The witness stand is made of ice. A single light from directly above strikes it. The Judge’s stand is very narrow at the base and grows larger as it ascends to its great height. With his back to the audience, BEELZEBUB, sits at the prosecutor’s desk. He is dressed in a black suit with a red...

Urban Genocide Play Calls for Change
On the steps before a green door of a ghetto home sit photos, stuffed animals, and lit candles as part of a public display of love and mourning. Around the steps, people are gathered: some hold each other, some stare in bewilderment. At the top of the steps stands a young man – arms folded and eyes closed. A mother weeps and as she cries a cascade of crimson envelops the proceedings. With a...
The Increased Difficulty of Concentration - Speed...
This was an exercise we did. We had 30 minutes to punch out as much of a review as possible. I did not manage to finish and a lot of my thoughts are rather disorganized and unimaginative. But it made me make choices quickly instead of weighing on them for hours… so I learned from this.
Chaos ensues around a sexual social scientist as his world, and his ability to function, collapses. The...
"I Can't Get Over This!" - Home
Blood red light stains and overwhelms the cozy, sepia tinted photograph of a young African American couple before a warn, dusty farmhouse and cross-shaped telephone pole. The young man rushes at the cross, letting loose a despairing cry as knife-sharp, white light cuts across the pole from above. This image was only one of the numerous moments of brilliance in Arcadia University’s production of...
An Amazing Deal: Miss Witherspoon
(For Durang’s Miss Witherspoon we just had to write a lede)
Chicken Little, Gandalf (the wizard from The Lord of the Rings), an abusive parent, an Indian angel, suicide, and Jesus Christ in a muu muu dress are now available in one convenient package! You might be thinking, “Come again?” I’m not lying. It’s true! All of this, and more, can be found in Keuka University’s production of...
Holocaust Play Proves to Be Devastating
Three multi-leveled scaffold towers loom before you. The house lights slowly darken. The ominous sound of a Yiddish tune on pipes is suddenly heard. The lights come up and the Brechtian A Comb and a Prayer Book: A Survivor’s Story plunges us into the tragic world of a holocaust survivor. Unfortunately, this production proved tragic as well.
It shares the story of Elizabeth Blum Goldstein who,...
Imagination and Friendship Abound in Children's...
With a child’s mentality everything seems simpler, but, at the same time, everything is much more imaginative. With this concept in mind, Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s production of the musical A Year with Frog and Toad, based upon the children’s books of the same name, becomes all the more enjoyable.
The show itself is charming and cute. It moves from scene to scene while the lessons...
Of My Reviews
Here they come! Now, I will be posting them in the order in which I wrote them… and I became progressively better at it as time went by… the first ones are really rough looking back at them…
We had a word limit of 500 words.
*GASP* Is the tumblrity gone?!
Of Apologies
So I was told I was going to use my blog to post reviews of the shows I saw this week… but it never happened… I will post them all, the good and bad reviews, later… I learned SO MUCH this week.
I'm going to be forced to do a critique on my...
Of ACTF
It rocks.
A Year with Frog and Toad will be the first play I see with a curtain at 9:30… then lunch… followed by critic class/workshop from 2:30 to 5. I think another show tomorrow night.
I love this.
Of Coming Back to School
As I approached my apartment door, I a huge smile developed across my face… I’m very glad to be back… This week at ACTF should be incredible!
Of the Word "Fart"
My mom and most her family practically flips out when they hear this word… real swear words cause them brain damage from the amount of air they suck while gasping… it gets really old really quickly. It’s a word. You don’t have to use it, but get over other people using it… and I’m not talking about me even.
95% of my friends can't keep to a schedule or...
…and it’s really frustrating.
Of "Public Enemies"
I don’t feel like doing a full review like I did for “Nine”… but my thoughts on the film are basically this:
1. I thought the acting was genuinely good overall… I really didn’t even think about it which usually means they’re doing their jobs and it’s just good.
2. The narrative could have been slightly clearer throughout…
3. Some of the...
I've Officially Diagnosed Myself With Cabin Fever
justkevin:
Thanks WebMd
There are no sidewalks, the snow banks are too high so I haven’t been able to get any exercise in weeks. Finally have the house alone to myself. What do I do?
Turn off my blackberry, mess with my camera, and do the entire She-Wolf video
Send help
Only, I am kept from doing anything by an overly protective family. I would be absolutely fine to go do something.
Of My Mother
She has officially become an old person in the aspect of the weather. If it isn’t 70 and sunny it is too dangerous to go anywhere. As a result, I am clearly meant to rot for all eternity in this conservative, close-minded, boring house until I die.
Will you please let me live a little?
